Background Info
Bike Scouts is a program offered by Charlie's Freewheels that teaches youth who are interested in bike touring to ride long-distances and camp while bikepacking safely. It is run camp-style with participants attending four courses over four days, and culminates in a long-distance bike camping trip. There is also a "TWIGs" stream for Trans-, Women, Intersex, Gender Non-Conforming / Gender Non-Binary + participants, creating space for marginalized people who have been traditionally excluded from the bikepacking world, and giving them an opportunity to be confident participants. The topics covered in the program are how to plan long-distance routes, what to pack, what to wear, how to prepare, and how to make repairs on the road while riding.
The Process
For program participants, there were stamp cards to track their progress through the program. At the end, these could be traded for a prize! I created the graphics, the individual assets, designed the stamp cards and created the stamps, which were manufactured at Kid Icarus! I also assisted in delivering programming, leading sessions, and leading rides for the program.
