Background Information
The Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario (ETFO) worked with The Public Studio to create a toolkit to give junior and intermediate students from across the province the tools to interrogate, activate, and dream for an inclusive society where people of all genders and gender identities are equals. This toolkit is the Women's Equality Project, which includes eight books: one teacher resource guide and seven modules to work through with a class.
The Process
The ETFO Women’s Equality resource brings teachers, students and communities across Ontario together to affect change for gender equity. This resource, consisting of eight modules (Introduction, Economics & The Workplace, Education, Gender-based Violence, Health, Politics & The Law, Pop Culture & The Arts, Social Movements), supports educators in advancing gender equity in their classrooms and school communities.
The resource is organized in a way that allows teachers to access material on a variety of topics and subject areas organized into modules, guided discoveries and learning activities.
For this project, I was provided with the design direction, styles, and guidelines for the books, and I did the layouts for seven of the eight modules. I also created graphics and handouts when needed.
